a PS 249 we believe that college begins in pre-k we believe that every student without exception without excuse will be proficient or advanced in Reading writing and Mathematics we are committed to the academic success of every student in our school every student deserves the opportunity to be educated in a way that prepares them for college if they so choose to attend a PS 249 we cultivate our students personal character creativity and collaborative skills through Blended learning we believe that all students can learn and it is the school's job to make this happen the mission of our school is to promote the six exceptional systems culture of universal achievement collaboration standards alignment assessment data analysis and intervention ps24 9 creates a college readiness culture focuses on the growth of each student sets high expectations involves parents and community and always seeks to improve a PS 249 we offer Saturday school and a variety of academic morning and after-school programs at PS 249 we follow PBIS a school-wide behavioral support system that encourages positive decision-making independent Fosters a culture of unity among students teachers and families some social emotional initiatives at PS 249 include PBIS character trait of the month College Friday's student council Taekwondo My Brother's Keeper My Sister's Keeper just a few of our school-wide events include respect for all week College week 6 week career day the annual art fair the annual health fair Cinco de Mayo multi-cultural day and lots of fun pep rallies and Edition we are partners with many community-based agencies such a if the tile Cultural Arts Noel Pointer Foundation American scores and the child MIND Institute finally we offer many after school student enrichment programs such as chat Minecraft poetry soccer and comic book design it is our goal to nurture our students in their social and academic development by providing them with high-quality instruction and establishing Partnerships with families our community our school's motto is read read read and you will succeed we are college ready
